So there was I - obsessing over bagels. These dense and chewey breads were taking up a lot of my time - suddenly in the middle of a meeting my mind would wander to that bagel sandwich I had in San Fran - the nuttyness added by the sesame, the soft, yet chewey bread, the shmear - jalapeneo! - it had alfa-alfa sprouts - DRROOOOOOOOOL!
I found myself googling bagels - and salivating all over the Einstein Bros website. How embarassing! This was no way for a Queen to live! I needed to get me a bagel asap! Thus began the great bagel quest of 2013...
I asked the good people of Chennai Food Guide to guide me to the nearest bagel - and boy! did they rise to the occasion! One of the good souls there spoke of a George who had a gourmet kitchen and made bagels - but was located in Kodaikanal! - but then they spoke of a Gormei Market off TTK road that would have these golden rings of chewey deliciousness!
Well, you can imagine I lost ABSOLUTELY NO TIME in getting to Gormei - and as I stood on the threshold of the shop, I said a little prayer to the Food Gods, and stepped in - and the first thing to greet me was a shelf literally STACKED with BAAAGELS!!!! I practically danced a jig! HAPPINESS!!!!
So I picked up the bagels, got some philly cream cheese to go with it, and returned to my castle with my treasure. Much like a miser counting his gold, my eyes kept going back to the bag that contained the bagels as I sat in my chariot and waited impatiently to get back home.
Back at the castle, I took out the packet of bagels and examined it - there were four, and they were lightly dusted with sesame seeds.. droooool! could imagine the slight nuttiness that that would add to the tast of the bread!
So then I opened it up, sliced it up, toasted it, slathered on cream cheese - and BIT INTO THE MOST PERFECTLY DELICIOUS BAGEL! OOOh my!!! MOUTHGASM! Nice and chewy, and yet soft - I'd been fantasizing about it for so long, and here it was! George (whoever you are!) you're a genius! - I dub thee Sir George of the Bagel!
